eXceed News – Q1, 2022

At eXceed, we continue to embed new features and options in our services and software packages to make your work smoother than ever. This time, the focus has been primarily on our 3D viewer.

  The Short List:
  1. Facial Images and X-rays can be viewed alongside the 3D plan
  2. Occlusal plane added
  3. Bolton discrepancy index added
  4. Overbite/overjet feature added
  5. Two new pontics added

  1. Facial Images and X-rays (Beta!)

Now, all available patient records including the 3D model, facial images, X-rays and 3D plan can be viewed on a single screen, making the review process easier and more user friendly.

Use the following mouse commands to toggle between the various records: A) Shift + mouse wheel adjusts the transparency of the image; B) When a 3D model is selected, 2D image size is adjusted with CTRL + mouse wheel; C) When a 2D image is selected, 3D model size is adjusted with CTRL + mouse wheel.

2. Occlusal Plane

Examining the 3D model with the occlusal plane can provide some valuable insights on necessary orthodontic corrections. To activate, tick the “Occlusal Plane” option at the left side of the screen

The occlusal plane changes the behavior of the view buttons. When the module is switched on, the commands rotate the model perpendicularly to the occlusal plane.

Bolton Discrepancy Index

3.jpg

The Bolton Index is one of the most useful calculations in the context of orthodontic diagnosis as it can safely predict ratios between dental proportions. Click on the “Bonton Analysis” button to turn this module on.

Overbite/overjet

4.jpg

Overbite and overjet are also one of the most common analyses used for orthodontic treatment planning, for example for assessment of symmetry. Click on the “Cross Section” option in the menu to turn this module on.

New Pontics

5.jpg

Patients undergoing clear aligners treatment may have one or more missing teeth. The doctor in this case may request to add a virtual pontic when the case is submitted, to fill in the empty space. eXceed will need to know whether you wish the space represented by the pontic to close when teeth move, or be kept intact for future restoration.
